A chaddar or sheet is a significant object in India.
It is used to cover ones body when one dies. It is
also used to signify the union between two people
when they are wed. In religion, a chaddar is used to
cover deities as a thanks giving or an offering.
This chaddar has been painstakingly covered with
thousands of 99% sterling silver grains.
It is a Mehnga chaddar or an expensive sheet -
not in terms of the sheer work and expense that has
gone into it, but in terms of our apathy towards the
farmers who are killing themselves. Burdened under
the life of drought, famine, barren land and loan
sharks, sometimes that’s their only option.
