"See, here I told one grain in my hand
A multitude for those who are to come
To clothe the fertile deserts
With transforming pelts of gold
To be harvested by new peoples
Wading through their unplanted harvests
Singing songs in languages unborn."
A world map without borders.
Grains through thousands of years have seamlessly moved across countries and continents and are part of all our lives with no differentiation. If we are broken down by caste and class and color and religion, we are connected by the food we all eat. Nature is powerful beyond measure and no human force can contain it - we have seen that time and again.
The reason this painting is on such a large scale and then hand painted millions of tiny grains on it was to show both the power and fragility of our earth.
